Deceptican't
Jul. 16th, 2014 09:03 amI would like to introduce a new word to The World, "Deceptican't" - The representation of a choice disguised as an impossibility for the purpose of victimization validation. Most times, a Deceptican't statement reads much less sympathetic and/or defensible when you replace "can't" with "won't". You aren't making a conscious choice to do something, you're a victim of truth!
EXAMPLES:
Now replace the Can't with a "Won't"...
EXAMPLES:
- "Doctor says if I don't quit, I'm gonna die - but he doesn't understand that ya can't just QUIT smoking!"
- "I've been looking at ways to cut my spending and save a little money, but I can't give up my Starbucks before work every morning, I'd go NUTS!"
- "I want to eat healthier, but I just can't stand vegetables!"
- "Wish I could get to the gym on a regular basis, but I can't find the time!"
Now replace the Can't with a "Won't"...
- "Doctor says if I don't quit, I'm gonna die - but he doesn't understand that I won't just QUIT smoking!" - well now you're just being stubborn and stupid.
- "I've been looking at ways to cut my spending and save a little money, but I won't give up my Starbucks before work every morning, I'd go NUTS!" - Why not? That's five bucks a day!
- "I want to eat healthier, but I just won't eat vegetables!" - Yeah, my three-year-old has the same argument against veggies.
- "Wish I could get to the gym on a regular basis, but I won't find the time!" - You COULD find the time, you just choose not to.
