144 - The Best Tomorrowland?
Jul. 16th, 2015 05:37 pmWhich version or era of Disneyland's Tomorrowland was the best? We've had 60 years of data now, so I think it's fair to judge now...
1950's - 1960's At it's kitschiest best, made up mostly of walk-through commercials for Aluminum, Milk, Cars and the likes. Introduced us to the idea of a Highway System, floating cars, jet packs and trips into outer-space, as well as an overall message of us coming together as a Global Community.
1970's - 1980's A Science Fiction EXPLOSION of awesomeness! Captain EO, People Movers, Rocket Rods, Space Mountain, the Starcade - an eye towards the future and space travel, as well as the hottest and most innovative entertainment around!
1990's/2000's Steampunk before Steampunk knew it was Steampunk! Focus was drawn away from space travel and entertainment in favor of imaginative concepts from the likes of Jules Verne! Mostly cosmetic changes and downsizing, but hey at least we got Star Tours out of it right?
2000's to Present Day A land of unlimited potential! When they put the Steampunk-themed Astro Orbiter right between the updated Star Tours and Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters, you knew that all bets were off. Closer to being a mish-mashed "Fantasyland For Boys" with it's focus on traditional male power trip fantasies like Super Heroes and Star Wars, what direction will they go next? Maybe the greatest era of Tomorrowland is... tomorrow?
