158 - Ketchup Pt. 1: Who Needs Toenails?
Aug. 26th, 2015 02:42 pmJust realized that I haven't put a few major updates re: My Life here on LJ. Stupid Facebook... makes me think that "Ow my toe!" is an informational update GRRRRR!!!
About a month ago, our Washing Machine took the cowards way out and committed suicide. He had tried to get on with his life after the loss of his life-long partner, The Dryer, a few months back by hooking up with a shiny new dryer we bought from a friend, but I guess his depression ran deeper than any of us had thought possible. The authorities have no reason to suspect foul play.
However... It *is* kind of suspicious that the New Dryer was seen just days later, cavorting with a fancy new Washer from Craigslist...
When I attempted to confront the couple about their relationship, things got ugly. Push came to shove and, long story short, I ended up getting hurt so bad I can't even walk.
tl;dr - I dropped the new washing machine on my foot while trying to move it in to the laundry room. I crushed my foot badly enough to pop my toenail off and cause a lot of swelling/blood/pain.
I went an entire WEEK without seeing a doctor, because I knew what the doctor would say - "Gee that looks bad, let's X-ray it, nothing seems wrong, elevate/ice/ibuprofen".
So I went an entire 2 weeks doing just that before the sleepless nights and the inability to drive got the better of me.
At the Doctor's Office (Emergency Care Clinic to be exact), the doctor came in to the room, was very calm, asked me what happened, didn't touch me at all and said (very calmly) "Okay let's get you in for an X-Ray". He then left the room, very calmly, and didn't quite get the door closed all the way so I could hear him say to the nurse "Owwwwwwwwwwwwwwch! He's been living with that for TWO WEEKS?" and the nurse replied "I KNOW! OW OW OW OW OW!!!"
The X-Ray came back with no indication of fracture or break or crush or anything. Diagnosis: Deep, painful bruising. Stay off of it. Elevate, ice, ibuprofen. Also, try wrapping it in an ace bandage (a new bit of advice I had not predicted).
"For how long, Doc?"
"For as long as it takes."
SO here I am, almost a MONTH later now, still unable to walk.
I'm very depressed over this, as I have WASTED the final weeks of Molly's Summer Vacation with this stupid thing. Instead of going to the beach/library/fruitstand/farm/park/wherever, we're stuck here at home watching TV and playing on computers :(
