055 - Birthday Post
May. 3rd, 2016 07:20 amI had mentioned maybe planning a Birthday Party this year, but have decided against it because this weekend is going to be packed with stuff already, and 3/4ths of the people I would invite couldn't make it to my party on my schedule. So instead of a party this year, I will have my TRADITIONAL Birthday Weekend :)
My Birthday, by the way, is on May 8th - which just happens to be on Sunday this year, same day as Mother's Day (which is one of the many complications).
This "Traditional Birthday Weekend" has been going on for FOURTEEN YEARS now, ever since Tobey Maguire first put on the Spider-Man costume for Sam Raimi.
The tradition is that there is SOME "Nerd Movie" debuting the first weekend of May, and the first Saturday in May is Free Comic Book Day.
So we get up and go to a comic book store, usually Subspace Comics in Lynnwood (formerly The Comic Stop) because of Tradition, and because of proximity to two different movie theaters. We get our free comics and a few other things because you GOTTA support the shop that's giving you free comic books, then over to the theater to wait in line and get THE BEST SEATS for the Nerd Movie. This year, it's Captain America: Civil War :)
After the movie, time to go to Red Robin and get my free Birthday Burger and ice cream. From there we just head home and maybe play a game, or watch some TV together, or just read comics all night :)
Then, on Sunday, we go up North and visit my Mom for Mother's Day on my Birthday :)
This works out very nicely!
