Yesterday was Free Epiphany Day, and I came to see the Star Wars Franchise in a whole new light.

(Background: I had been one of those Star Wars geeks who hated the new trillogy because it's like a smack in the face to everything that had come before in the original Star Wars Trillogy)

The STar Wars Movies aren't made for 30-something geeks like me, and thas why they don't cater to my 30-something geek tastes. They are now and always have been KIDS MOVIES, designed specifically to interest kids in Science Fiction. And it works! When you stop looking at Phantom Menace and Clone Wars as if they're supposed to be Citizen Kane or Gone With The Wind and instead look at them as a Wizard Of Oz or Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory, they become masterful! Entertaining kids movies that tell a much larger, darker story of one person going to "The Dark Side". How does a villain become a villain? This is how. Very, very cool.

So that was my Epiphany Of The Day.

And just in time, too! I went to Toys R Us last night at Midnight to get first crack at the new figures, and this is what I got:
  • Anakin's Jedi Starfighter Play Set (Toys R Us Exclusive) with firing missiles!
  • Limited Edition "Holographic" Yoda (Toys R Us Exclusive Gift with my purchae of $25 or more!
  • Darth Vader with Lightsaber Attack!
  • Clone Trooper with Quick-Fire Action!
  • Yoda with Firing Cannon?!?!?!

YODA WITH FIRING CANNON?!?!?!

What the hell is Yoda doing with a cannon twice his size???

Oh well. A Jedi need not crave Advnture and Excitement when he's packin' his Gat, I guess.

Also, I think they screwed up when they rung me up. Each of the figures was supposed to be around $8 and the Jedi Starfighter was $20, but the entire order came to just over $30. Weird.

There was also a new figure-based game there called "Attacktics" or some such nonsense. Looks like HeroClix, only slightly larger and with projctiles. Yeah, I'll probably be getting me some o dat :)

HAHA nerd

That's a very good way to put it! Even if it was to justify buying a bunch of action figures. :P

But seriously, I've been...I dunno...less pissed off about Star Wars 1-3 than others. I mean, Phantom Menace had lots of crappy parts, most of them containing Jar-Jar, but that wasn't too different from how Return of the Jedi kicked ass, except that it was full of a bunch of fucking muppets.

Anyway! Good way to look at it. I'm going to float that one past the die-hard contingent at work and see what they say.
