Helped a kid named Peter tonight; Peter is 14. He spoke with the distinctive lisp that one can only get from a retainer.

I could hear his friends in the background watching Monty Python & The Holy Grail. One friend (who I just know was a "Jeremy" even though I didn't hear his name) was making martial-arts "Wshoo-PAH! Wshoo-PAH!" sounds that could only be accompanied with 14-year-old chest-level "Ninja Kicks". The other friend (Rodney?) was trying to get "Jeremy" to settle down and roll up a new character (accompanied by the tell-tale sound of real dice skittering across a coffee table). He was trying to explain Armor Class.

I like to imagine that Peter and his friends are sitting there in the basement/recroom with several bottles of Mountain Dew (which Jeremy is no longer allowed to drink any of because it makes him too hyper) and a CostCo-sized bag of Mini-Pretzels. They'll get their characters rolled, and Rodney would put on that kick-ass CD of Norwegian Death Metal that his brother gave him to "set the mood". Peter's Mom would then have to come down and tell them to turn it down, then they'd all get distracted and end up having a debate over which comic book Super Babe has the best rack.

There IS a new generation of My People! New ones being born every day! WE ARE IMMORTAL!!!
