Confirm or Deny a rumor?

captain_slinkyRajn in to The Co-Werker Who Had Been Canned A Week Before Me today, found out why she had been "let go", and heard a somewhat disturbing rumor that I need some Comcastic person or another to either confirm or deny for me:
All the "New Hires" that they're bringing in are being hired at $8.50 an hour.
Certainly *sounds* like something our Bean-Counting buddies would hae cooked-up, doesn't it? And if this IS the case, then all you long-haul employees should REALLY watch your backs, because when you can be replaced for $4-an-hour LESS? Suddenly things like Personal E-Mail, Playing your DS, making Origami, sewing, wearing shorts and/or etc suddenly becomes an offense that can ONLY be dealt with by a swift and immediate termination of your employment.
