Being on the Pure Comics HIGH that I am right now, I *need* to ask all my Comic Book Nerd Friends (which is *you*) a very special question.

WHICH IS BETTER???
  • Marvel Comics of The 1980's
- Which i consider to be THE BIRTH of long multi-title crossover stories that really maed a difference such as "Secret Wars", "Mutant Massacre", "Armor Wars" and others. "Crisis On Infinite Earths" may have been the greatest cross-over of all time, but they only did it after Marvel had proved that fans could handle Universe-shaking storylines. And the cohesion of the continuity at that time was just absolutely perfect! It was truly a golden age for The Astrix Box ("*See current issues of X-Force for the whole story!" type stuff).
  • DC Comic os The 1970's - Every issue was self-contained and self explanatory (even if you had no idea who Superman was, by the end of the issue you would know that he was Clark Kent, he worked for a Newspaper, he liked Lois Lane, Lois had no idea that he was Superman, he came from Krypton, Kryptonite could weaken and possibly even kill him and a billion other important facts), along with covers that really SOLD the comic book to you instead of just providing a pretty piece of paper that happened to contain the pages. Also, each issue ended with a very nice non-important cliff-hanger ending that made you want to come back for more. Superman may have spent the entire issue trying to get Mxyzptlk to say his name backwards so he'd return to The Fifth Dimension, but then on the very last panel of the very last page THE LEGIONS OF SUPERHEROES might appear and say "OMG Superman we totally need yr help in Teh Future lolz" and that's where the next issue would pick up.
  • Gold Key Comics of the 1960's - It was a day and age when nearly EVERY Saturday Morning Cartoon and Kids Movie had a comic book tie-in! Pink Panther, Woody Woodpecker, Bugs Bunny, Mickey Mouse... they all stood side-by-side in those "3 Comics For The Price Of One" baggies along with sci-fi standbys like Star Trek, Flash Gordon and more... plus some weird stuff you'd never heard of like Turok: Son Of Stone and Doctor Solar that had INCREDIBLE painted covers. Those covers let you KNOW that this was somehow an important comic book.
At thsi moment, I'm not really open to other nominations. THESE are the three types of comic books you have to choose from. Which one is THE GREATEST?

If you want to nominate some other era/publisher, by all means do so! ...In your own Journal :)

I'm going to go with Gold Key comics. I was a really hyper kid, and when my parents found out I would sit down and read they bought me a whole bunch of them, especially on car trips. My mother told me I started reading comic books when I was 4-5 years old and my kindergarten teacher told her she was impressed with my reading skills.

And via reprints I discovered the genius of Carl Barks, who I think is the greatest anthropomorphic comic writer/artist of all time.

Along with many trips to Disneyland (I grew up in Goleta CA) going to Disney movies, watching Looney Tunes and Hanna-Barbera cartoons on TV, and plenty of Gold Key and Harvey comics, thats probably why I wound up being a Furry today.

I wish we had a company like Gold Key today that printed up thousands of kids comics and sold them cheap at supermarkets and convenience stores.

I hear ya! As it is today, kids don't even get cartoon animal entertainment on Saturday Mornings any more! I wonder if they'd know what to do with a block of anthropomorphological (my very own word!) entertainment?

That's so sad! Never read a Donald Duck Comic Book? Or an Advnetures of Superman where he and Batman team-up AGAIN to make Lois Lane feel foolish for having ever had the idea that Clark kent was really Superman?

Downright dirty shame, that is :(

But! Marvel of The 80's was DA BOMB!

I've seen the Donald ones and others of that ilk, but mainly in like dentists offices and such. They've never done a darn thing for me.

I really don't care for older comics, but if I had to choose between your three it would be Marvel. I really don't like DC at all and I'm not even going to comment on Golden Key.
