Molly is at it again... we were up till just past 2 this morning :( I'm really thinking I need to take all sugar out of her diet... even though I know there's supposedly no scientific link between sugar consumption and hyperactivity in children, it seems that any time she has a Cookie or other sweets after 4pm she's up all night long.

It's worth a shot at least, right?

It certainly can't hurt. I'd also avoid anything with artificial sweetners. Stuff like Nutrasweet & other sweetners always used to cause hyperactivity in my sisters when they were growing up.

True, good idea... i wonder if we should also avoid *natural* sugars like berries and other fruits?

noooooo natural sugars from fruit & veggies is good. Refined sugar is the bad/questionable stuff.

it might sound like a weird "snack" but sweet potatoes and celery are supposed to have calming effects...

I'm not on your flist, but happened upon your journal while trying to find out who mista_14 is. Children will respond differently to sugar, caffeine, dyes, etc. The best thing to do is simply to catalogue what your daughter eats and record the results. You will be able to pinpoint exactly what it is that is causing the problem. It could also be a growth spurt. ^_^

Good idea, thanks!

And yeah, it seems that the entire "Mist' family is on LJ! I've gotten friend requests from Mista 3 thru 14 so far!

I grew up severely restricted from refined sugar of any kind - fruit juice was okay, but if sugar was anywhere in the ingredients list in any form the answer was no. My mom even went as far as to give my teachers at school supplies of raisin boxes, so on days when candy was being given out my teacher could give me raisins instead.

At the time I didn't really understand the significance, but it really didn't bother me. And knowing what I know now that i'm a "grown-up" (ha!) I can't say it was a *BAD* thing to do - I mean, aside from having wisdom teeth pulled when they came in sideways, I have all my teeth. And no cavities until after I moved to the mainland & started feeding myself.

So, I'm living proof that it can be done, & it has some really beneficial long-term effects...

Yeeeeeeeaaaaaaahhhhhh... ending up like *you*... Yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaah... I'm not really sure if that would go under the category of *Beneficial"...
