Okay, this is all theoretical here but let me know if you think it works from a Comcast perspective...

What I'm trying to do is get all the New Connect deals while still retaining my old e-mail addresses.

First, I go and subscribe to a Digital Cable and HSI package, whatever gets me the best deal (hoping for free install and maybe $20 a month for my first 6 months? Something like that?) and schedule install for as close to December 1st as possible. I tell them it's brand-new service, not an Xfer of services. The tech leaves me a SIK, I do the install and xfer my e-mail accounts over to the new address. As soon as accounts are Xfered, i *physically* take the old cable modem back to a Comcast Store and cancel service at my old address.

I know there's got to be a glitch I'm forgetting about... why wouldn't that work?

Wait, i think I remember... You can't xfer e-mail accounts from an active account! GRRRRR!!!

Okay, how about this... I seem to remember that there was a way to transfer secondary e-mails off of an account, like if a room mate moved out or something and wanted to establish his own account elsewhere with the same e-mail?

It would work. You would hardly be the first person who "forgot" to dx his old account and was unable to complete the sik. You remember the drill you call up for help, the rep if they have any skills figures out you're old account is still active, you act surprised, you know you told them to dx the old address when you set up the move. The rep sets up the dx sets the transfer flag and pushes the registration.
Standard Sunday stuff.

oh and since there is a reward out there for the techs picking up unreturned equipment with a little lie from you "Oh there is this old modem here" the tech could forget to ask, "is this from your old address?" and all he has to do is write up an orphaned equipment form and is $25.00 richer next pay check.

I'm not certain, but I think they changed the procedure on emails awhile ago to require a tts ticket to 2.5 for the transfer... not even RC can push transfers like that anymore.

May want to check with one of the other ninja still on the floor, though, just to make sure...

just don't create a "placeholder" account if transferring the old one is not an option. that's not a good idea anymore...

Oh really? Well that kinda blows ONE of my options out of the water...

That's what i was thinking, too... I know that the xfer of a secondary to a primary requires a 2.5 ticket, but just the good old "I forgot" policy? I'm just not so sure...

If it *is* a 2.5 ticket, I'm pretty sure they set up a "Dummy" account on your new address, keep your old addresses active and give the whole "3 to 5 days" for xfer of accounts... oh, and the "Be sure to back-up all your e-mails as they will be purged from our system during the migration".

HOW DO I REMEMBER THIS CRAP?!?!?

The trauma will be with you for years. I still remember how to dispatch the cops, AND the alarm line number for king county 911...

AWESOME! Hard to believe I remember so much of that junk after a year-and-a-half of absenteeism :)

Thanks!

my boyfriend, who is in comcast tech support says existing customers can get bundle deals. it is up to the agent though, so if one person says no you can call back later.

Your BF does the Comcast tech? NO WAY! I did it for about 3 years before they canned me for "Inappropriate Conduct"! Where does he work? We should make him an honorary member of the Stealth Cable Disconnect Ninja clan (long story).

But yeah, I know that an xfer of service can get a ton of good deals, but often the deals for "New Customers" are even better. Like over the summer when they were giving away Nintendo Wii for new subscribers :) So basically I'm just calling in all my old contacts to make sure I'm getting not just a GREAT deal, but THE BEST deal :)

Oh we've got G-Mail, Yahoo, Hotmail and probably a few I've even forgotten over the years... but our Comcast addresses are what all our elderly relatives have as contact for us. And since I *know* The Comcast system fairly well, I *think* I can rig the system to keep my old info while still getting The Royal Treatment of a new customer!

Hey, it worked for Free Cable!

(Which, btw, I can totally get you hooked-up with...)

Yeah that will not work. The email transfer is gone right now. Thanks to the new smartzone migration mostly. Transferring can be done via a transfer and even if it gets missed too bad so sorry. If you need to keep the email then a transfer is your only hope.

Dag nabbit!

Okay, looks like I'll forsake my captain_slinky e-mail address just so I can do a fresh install.

What types of deals have you got right now? HSI and Digital Cable, please... hopefully a free install and a cut rate of some sort for X amount of months?
