Because it is 1 in the morning and I'm very awake, i shall compile for you my list of..
TOP 5 FAVORITE TRADE PAPERBACKS
(Collections of storylines from comic books)
(5) HELLBLAZER Book 1 - John Constantine is, in the simplest terms, a hard-boiled detective who deals exclusively with occult cases. I had never had any real interest in this series until I found the first book at a thrift store, and now I'm hooked! Unfortunately, Nicolas Cage is up for the lead role in this movie.
(4) ALIEN LEGION: FORCE NOMAD - Quite possibly the best, most solidly written Sci-Fi Military series ever written. Written some tme back in the 80's, this was the first wave of professional "independant" comic books. You kids today with your Image Comics and your Dark Horse Comics... you don't know how good you got it! Back in my day, if it wasn't Marvel or DC, it was going to be a Xeroxed, stapled story about smoking pot and sticking it to "The Man"!
(3) MAUS I & II - Real-life story of one of the Jewish survivors from the days of Nazis, acted out by cartoon mice. Sounds silly, but is actually so engrossing that you can't believe its all over so quick! Once again, this was a thrift-store find that I had never really had any interest in reading, and now am so very glad i did!
(2) PREACHER: ALAMO - This was the final book of the entire Preacher line, the sotry of a man on a mission to go kick God's butt and make him get back to work. It was by far the most satisfying, romantic, perfect ending to any series I've ever read.
(1) SUPREME: THE STORY OF A YEAR - Written by Alan Moore, this book was written specifically for people like me who love everything about comic books. Re-creating a crappy Rob Liefeld rip-off character and making him redefine the very essence of what it means to be an iconic superhero on the same level as Superman. It just totaly blew me away, and I really wish there were more.
