Molly likes Tea Parties. No, that's a lie... Molly likes to *have* a Tea Party so she can be an enforcer, making sure that her guests (usually just me) stay at the table looking at the Tea Party while she runs around and does other stuff.

WOE BE UPON the foolhardy party guest who assumes that The Tea Party is over just because The Hostess has been in her room coloring for the past half-hour! If she glances in the direction of The Tea Party and doesn't see you there, be prepared fr an ass-chewing you will not soon forget! Something along the lines of "Daaaaaaaaaaaahdeeee what are you DOOOOing?!?!? You ruined The Tea Party! I said I would be RIGHT BACK!"

And so I have learned to adapt. Any time we "Find" the Tea Party Set, we have a lot of fun setting it up. We have a lot of fun pouring two cups of tea. And then she leaves the table to go do something else, I leave the table to go do something else two minutes after that, she notices I am gone a half-hour later, I say "Oh, hney, i was just getting *this* for our Tea Party" while grabbing something/anything near me and then we go on not having our having a Tea Party.

Hey, it works!

Have you considered scheduling a weekly 'Tea'; with a set start and end time? When I was growing up, we had Sunday Tea. We always had our big meal of the day about 1 pm, and then a lighter, Brit-style 'Tea' around 6 pm. (What can I say, Mom IS British).

You set the table with a nice tablecloth and napkins. Maybe some fancy plates. Do little sandwiches without the breadcrusts and little fingerfoods. Then tell her that the party will last from say 5:30p til 6:00. After that she can leave, but if she leaves before that everyone else can too.

If nothing else, it might introduce her to the idea that the Hostess is SUPPOSED to be present THROUGHOUT the tea, attending to her guests.

I love your Molly stories. She's a great kid to read about. :) Do you plan on showing these to her when she gets older?
