The reason I liked the Captain America movie better than ANY of the other "Avengers Universe" movies.
  • IRON MAN: Self-centered jerk of a billionaire makes a fortune by selling weapons of death. Only once his own life is threatened does he "do the right thing" and start using his inventions for good instead of evil.

  • INCREDIBLE HULK: Scientist gets super powers by accident, destroys a lot of stuff, is a monster that needs to be stopped one way or another. Only redemption is when the monster inadvertantly stops another bigger monster.

  • THOR: Self-centered jerk of a God is banished to Earth and inconvenienced by having to save humans before returning to Asgard.

  • CAPTAIN AMERICA: Heroic underdog wants to be a hero so badly he's willing to undergo scientific experimentation to make him a Super Soldier so he can go and save lives.

Captain America is the onlyu one out of the bunch of them that actually wants to be a hero!

I agree with you up to a point. Steve Rogers didn't set out to be a hero. He wanted to serve his country with his friends, even if it meant dying for them.

And it took a bit than having his life threatened to cause Tony Stark to grow up. But considering who had a hand in rasing him, it's astonishing that he has done what he has.

What I really liked about this movie, other than the preview of the next movie, was the way it tied everything together nicely.

Did you keep flashing to the last Star Trek movie? Flying vehicle heading to certain doom? check. Captain of the ship talking to his love interest and then the line going dead? check....I almost expected James T to show up and say....'Steve, I am your father'.

But you are right....it was a VERY good movie.

Stark is rather a douche. He gets better, but at his core, he's not that great of a guy. Rather self-centered.

Hulk is just meh as an overall concept, in my book.

Thor was a pretty good movie. The character started off as a typical cocky young guy who thinks he's invincible. He learns some compassion and matures a bit. Just enough to seem like he may end up an okay guy later. But he's not quite what I think of as a hero. He likes kicking ass and showing off. He's not there to save people.

Captain America was about a true hero whose heart doesn't change. He grows into his role as a leader and hero naturally because of who he is. He's the only one I like for who he is both before and after.

I agree that Captain America was/is a hero. What sets him apart was that just wanted to help people. To him it wasn't something out of the ordinary. Doing the right thing is what people are supposed to do; without thinking about it.
