We went to the school today for a one-on-one meeting with the woman who will be Molly's very first Kindergarten Teacher. Crystal and I agreed that she seems to be a very nice lady :)

But then later in the day I got to thinking... OF COURSE we think she's a nice lady! Have you ever heard of somebody coming out of a first-time meeting with a kindergarten teacher muttering "Could you BELIEVE that self-righteous Bitch? Who the HELL doe she think she is, anyways?"

We usually save THAT type of language for after the first report card, right ;)

Another of my online pals wrote about her daughter's first day right after you did. How funny---I remember when the children were but glints in your eyes ;-)

In any case, your entry made me laugh!

Haha. Very true. The bitchiness is usually saved for later in the year.

Mine really WAS a bitch. A pretty terrible human being. She scarred me for life in ways that I didn't even recognize for many, many years. She's the reason I thought I couldn't sing. She's the one who squashed my outgoing personality. She's the one who tried to force me to sit through all the same boring stuff the rest of the class did, despite testing at the 4th grade level in reading when I started Kindergarten. She was awful to my parents. She accused my parents of pushing me too hard and all sorts of other things. (My parents couldn't get me books fast enough to satisfy my curiosity, PBS was my favorite channel EVAR, I picked up a BASIC manual and wrote my first GOTO statement at 6 because nobody told me I couldn't, and I talked my grandma into teaching me math up through long division because I didn't want to seem stupid when I started school... Yeah, they pushed me SO hard. *eyeroll*)

My 1st grade teacher wasn't much better. My 2nd grade teacher was heaven-sent, I tell you. I was almost hating school by then, except for my awesome new best friend and getting access to the school library.

Oh yeah. THE BITCHY LIBRARIAN WHO TOLD ME MR. POPPER'S PENGUINS WAS TOO HARD FOR ME. I READ WATERSHIP DOWN INSTEAD. TAKE THAT, BITCH.

*ahem*

Sorry. I've kept that in for years.

I'm sure Molly's experience will be better. I've met lots and lots of elementary school teachers over the years and except for those two they've all been awesome.

"Bitter? Damn near swaller'd 'er up whole!"

We're happy with the teacher we got... she looks like she WAS a fresh-faced, idealistic hippie-chick straight out of college and ready to change the world... 8 years ago. Now she's been teaching kindergarten for 5 years and...

At least she wasn't concerned about Molly's speech impediment. :)

Mine had both been jaded by many, many years. It was very unfortunate.

A few years seems to do a lot of good for teachers. They're not nearly as idealistic, but they do seem to do a better job.
