Much as I admire the librarian for all she did to help you, I have to say that the lunch staff, the bus driver and the custodian are the real unsung heroes! Their sacrifice of their spare time to make sure that you were able to enroll in that class speaks volumes about their dedication to education.
I think this entry touched me because, way back when, I won an essay contest when I was about ten. The topic was: what adult do you admire? The two other winners wrote about their mothers. I must have interpreted the topic to mean adults in general, so I wrote about the bus driver who took me across town to a school for disabled children from when I was about four to age seven. I was mainstreamed in the public schools in 1973, when I was strong enough to enroll in the regular classroom close to home. By the time I won the contest, it all seemed so long ago (we know better, now, as adults, how fleeting time really is), so imagine my surprise and joy when I saw the subject of my essay attend the award ceremony!
