I'm hopped-up on Vicodin right now, trying to bring myself down enough to lie in the bed without vibrating.

Good time to record my ever flip-flopping thoughts on the TV show "The Big Bang Theory"!

Long story short, I'm beginning to hate it again and for no other reason than I really hate the actors involved. I feel very insulted by them despite the show itself having a few redeemable moments.

I tall started with the Big Bang Theory Panel at San Diego Comic Con this year...

First of all, NO ONE was willing to own up to the words "Nerd" or "Geek". Any time somebody in the audience would use either one of those words they were all "WHoa hey now I wouldn't say we're THAT WORD or anything..." It's like they still think that words like Nerd and Geek have negative connotation behind them even when they're in a giant building full of Nerds and Geeks!

"Oh I'm nothing like my character, it's all just incredibly well written, I couldn't ever imagine what it would be like to have to be like THAT character that I portray on screen"

It's insulting in much the same way that the old Amos & Andy show was insulting for Black people, or how Eddie Murphy's "The Clumps" was insulting to Fat people. It's a minstrel show. It's laughing AT us, not with us. It's...

It's a Hipster thing, I think.

I just discovered (really, this is true) that all the stuff I love that I thought was becoming cool again, was actually just being admired IRONICALLY by Hipsters. "I'm gonna wear this Kenny Rogers shirt because Kenny Rogers sucks and wouldn't it be ironic if I really WERE some guy who really likes Kenny Rogers?" All those times I got compliments on my different shirts, the ones with super-heroes or sci-fi references... all the times I thought I was finally cool in some way... it was all a lie. That guy in the Tom & Jerry T-Shirt and skinny jeans who said "Hey nice Popeye T-Shirt"? He didn't like Popeye OR Tom & Jerry, he liked that he could now tell his friends how he saw this total loser wearing a Popeye T-Shirt.

The Big Bang Theory is wearing a Tom & Jerry Shirt, and I just don't think they care much for cartoons in general... Y'know what I mean?

I actually haven't seen them outside of the context of the show. I like the show (a season behind, though) and I'm not sure I want to now.

Hipsters are so annoying. Do they ever actually like anything (except themselves), or do they just pretend to have at one time liked something, before it was cool?

Also, see what my icon did there?

I wouldn't say that *all* of your superhero t-shirt compliments have been ironic.

Well sure... but all the compliments that came from people who I thought were too cool to like such things and made me believe that my Nerdosity was finally in vogue? THOSE ones came from Hipsters...

Those people, the ones who are too cool to like some things... they like whatever they're told. Most of them don't know whether they are being ironic or not. If someone says, "I like your shirt. It's so retro-ironic.", give them a cookie.

I've watched a couple of episodes and that was exactly the impression I got--that it was laughing AT us and not WITH us.

It's really been a long journey for that show... season one was as insulting as Fried Chicken and Watermelon. Season 2 and 3 were mostly balanced and quite enjoyable at times. Season 4 seems to have come back to it's roots with their terrible "Look at those losers" mentality. And then of course it was the interviews with every single one of the cast members who seem genuinely ASHAMED to be associated with such a nerdy set of characters... that's what pushed me over the edge.

Well now I'm double glad I didn't get the t-shirt last night.
