This past weekend, my sister was pretty heavily involved in a charity event over in Friday Harbor featuring Elayne Boosler, Wendy Liebman... and EMO PHILLIPS. Y'know... THIS GUY:

It was about 1986 when I discovered Emo, I think... I found a cassette tape of "Live From The Hasty Pudding Theater" in the very limited comedy section of the very limited Tapes & Records section of our very limited Payless Drug Store in my very limited little home town of Anacortes, Washington. This was where i got ALL my non-garage sale tapes and records. I listened to th tape over and over and over and over and over again, and shared it with everyone and anyone ho would listen. The closing crew at McDonald's (my first non-family Family) and I listened to it over and over as we cleaned that McDonalds every night. Every room mate I ever had, I made them listen to this genius of a comedian at least once.

Emo Phillips molded my entire sense of humor, nearly single-handed!

Due to financial and time limitations, I was unable to go to the show, and now I'm kind of glad/sad about it.

See, AFTER the show, Emo started hanging out with my Sister. My brother-in-law took him hiking on the island. They just... they just hung out.

No on the ONE HAND, I'm all "NOOOOO I COULD HAVE BEEN HANGING WITH ONE OF MY IDOLS AAAAAAAAARGH!!!" But in the end I realize that it's a really good thing that I wasn't there, because I would have been THAT GUY. The guy who wouldn't leave the celebrity alone. The guy who makes the celebrity uncomfortable. The guy who laughs a little to long and a little too enthusiastically at EVERYTHING the celebrity says. Poor Emo wouldn't have been able to enjoy his visit!

So really, it's a *good thing* that I skipped this. Really.
