Odds are that if you're overweight, you've been on a diet and experienced something like this scenario.
You've been driving around all day doing errands when suddenly you realize that you haven't eaten since breakfast, and here it is nearly 6pm and you've got another two-hour drive ahead of you! You start to panic because OHmyGod you need to eat SOMETHING! You feel headachey and lethargic, you need SOMETHING. You start going over all the fast-food options in the area - Taco Bell, McDonalds, Burger King, Wendy's... NONE of them have any QUICK FOOD that's on your diet! Oh, they offer salads and stuff, sure... but you can't eat a salad while driving! Nope, it's pretty much decided that you're going to have to cheat on the diet, just this once. Taco Bell sounds good, maybe a 7-layer burrito? Oooh, wait - a CHEESEBURGER! There's a Five Guys just about a mile away! You could drive there, get an awesome cheeseburger and OMG THOSE FRIES!!! It's been SO LONG SINCE YOU HAD FRIES!!! May as well go with a large, make it this one meal where you just go ahead and cheat, then right back on the diet tomorrow morning. One meal, in and out, done. No harm, no foul. Live and learn.
But then you realize that there's a grocery store between you and the Five Guys.
You try to come up with a good, strong reason to go get that Cheeseburger at Five Guys... something stronger than "BECAUSE I REALLY WANT A CHEESEBURGER AND FRIES!!!", but you can't. Grocery store is closer, cheaper, faster, and full of much healthier options such as apples, cheese sticks and other foods you can eat real easy while driving.
If you've ever felt the pride of a store-bought apple instead of going to get that cheeseburger, you can understand Superman. You know what it's like to be ABLE to take the easy, justifiable way and instead choosing to do what's right. That's what Superman's all about - Choosing the apples even though you're surrounded by Cheeseburgers.
