Just learned that due to the phenomenal success of the Trillogy release on DVD, they are currently planning a "Back To The Future 4". Thing is, no one from the original cast or crew is interested in doing it (no Michael J Fox, no Robert Zemeckis, no Christopher Lloyd). But since Universal wants a new movie, they're going to do it... nost likely, animated.
I've seen the Saturday morning Back To The Future cartoons (which is the animation style they want to use), but that would be WRONG! It's too cartoony, and what made BTTF so incredible (to me, at least) was that it all seemed so *real*. Very plausible, like I could maybe make a car go 88 Miles Per Hour, generate 1.21 Jiggawatts of electricity, and go screeching in to the past. Make it a G-rated cartoon, and you'll lose all of the credibility.
So how would I fix it? I'm glad you asked!
Two words: Amanda Bynes.
Hear me out here! It's an excellent concept!
Amanda Bynes (that annoyingly chipper girl from Nickalodeon and that WB sitcom) would play Martha McFly, and the movie would play out shot-for-shot almost the exact same as the first movie - still set in 1985, only with the main characters now being Female. Lilly Tomlin could play "Doc" Emma Brown, calling Martha to arrange a mysterious meeting at the Twin Pines Mall in the middle of the night. Only instead of testing a *new* Deloreon Time Machine, they are testing one that was found in an abandoned mine shaft outside of town. Old, dusty, "Mr. Fusion" engine, 1950's Radio Tubes, and equipped to be run on a train track. This is obviously the same Time Machine that has been through all the BTTF movies! In the back seat, Doc Emma Brown found a video tape and a few items from the entire trillogy (a Hover Board, the Sports Almanac, and an 1885 Smith & Wesson Peace Maker pistol). Between Doc and Martha, they piece things togehter and figure that something must have gone terribly wrong which caused this alternate timeline where theier MALE counterparts never existed!
Then they go bac in time, interact with some film clips from the original movie, and BOOM! New movie!

Date: 2003-06-05 10:17 am (UTC)It'll work... trust me. But Stockard Channing? i dunno... We need someone who can pull off "Manic" as well as Christopher Lloyd. Lilly Tomlin was the first name that came to mind.
