It was an emergency mock-up for a contest. On display at Skywalker Ranch they have this beat-up 1970's California license plate with the number "1T1H3X8" on it. It' part of a display with lots of other stuff that, during the tour, all they say about it is "Here are several small mementos from the films of George Lucas". No specific mention of where it actually came from. he contest was to find a screen shot from the movie hat this license plate comes from.

Everyone knows that it's a reference to George's first film, "THX-1138", but where is THIS PLATE actually from?

The license plate on his first car was supposedly "THX 1138", which is where the title for the film would have come from, but that's not "1T1H3X8".

A car with the license plate "THX 1138" was also seen in "American Graffiti" and the lesser-known follow-up film "More American Graffiti", which once again does not match the displayed license plate.

According to some on-line forums, it's the license plate of a car in the movie "Better Off Dead", but after having watched the whole thing again in looking for this license plate I can confidently say that it is NOT from that movie.

And so, in an attempt to win the contest, I fabricated this image. I am not proud of myself.

However, in my own defense, even the person running the contest has no solid, provable idea where it came from :)

Screen shots or it didn't happen!

Ahh, it makes more sense now. Not complete sense, but more.
