Molly's New Favorite Episode of Doctor Who

captain_slinkySeeing as how Facebook never ever honors the "Spoiler Cut" that we Livejournal users get to use, and seeing as how I'm cross-posting this to Facebook, it seems only right that I put in a bit of filler-text here to avoid spoiling the latest episode of Doctor Who ("Into The Dalek"), but as anyone who knows my 8-year-old daughter's history with Doctor Who knows that she probably loved that episode :)
The Doctor Who reboot started in 2005. Molly was born in 2006. She has had Doctor Who as a constant, family-centric entertainment literally ALL HER LIFE. And like most young Whovians, her first favorite villains were The Daleks.
She was both amused and terrified by The Daleks (I blame Russel T Davies for that), and so her little kid mind made-up a NEW Dalek that she was always looking for - DALEK BOB, THE DALEK WHO DID NOT HATE.
Through a series of conversations about Dalek Bob, Molly and I came up with a children's book backstory for Dalek Bob.
One day, a little girl named Molly was playing in the park when she noticed a silly man in a flying blue box being chased by a few thousand Daleks, all shouting "EX-TER-MEE-NAYTE! DEE-STROY THE DOCK-TORE!!!" and causing an awful ruckus. The silly man in the flying blue box shouted something at The Daleks that Molly couldn't quite hear but it made all the Daleks stop where they were and with a flash of light and a whiff of burnt ozone, they were all gone - Blue Box, Silly Man AND the angry mob of Daleks.
All the Daleks, that is... except for *one*, which was laying motionless on it's side right where the flying blue box had once been.
Then all was quiet.
Molly heard a rustling in the bushes behind her, followed by a raspy, metallic voice asking "ARE. THEY. GONE?"
There, in the bushes, Molly saw a small, frightened... DALEK. This Dalek looked a bit smaller than the angry Daleks she had just seen disappear, and instead of being a goldish-bronzeish metal color, this Dalek was a somehow-less-threatening *black* from bottom to top. "REPEAT QUERY! ARE. THEY. GONE?"
"They're gone" replied Molly, and not feeling the least bit frightened she decided to ask the Dalek if it had a name.
"MY NAME IS BOB... DALEK BOB. I DO NOT LIKE TO EX-TERM-MEE-NATE! I JUST WANT TO PLAAAAY!"
Molly told Dalek Bob that he had certainly chosen the right planet to play on - Earth has TONS of great playgrounds and parks! And so Molly and Dalek Bob spent the rest of the day playing together. Molly gave Dalek Bob his first Ice Cream Cone EVER and taught him how to play with a ball. Then they painted Dalek Bob's sensor globes (those round bumpies on his body) in a rainbow of colors.
Molly and Dalek Bob had many adventures together that usually involve terrible disguises. Going to the grocery store, going to the pet store (which Dalk Bob thought was just a different kind of grocery store), going to school and hiding from the occasional Dalek Invasion.
Much like "Rusty" in the current episode of Doctor Who, Dalek Bob has a fear/hatred of regular Daleks and does whatever he can to try and alert The Doctor about their activities whenever he encounters them.
From the very first time "Rusty" was on screen, Molly was screaming "DALEK BOB! THAT'S HIM!!!!" and as far as she's concerned this is Dalek Bob's origin story :)
