I love Christmas Specials. I love vintage TV programs, especially the 1970's. And of course, I love The Muppets. And so the greatest Christmas Present I found for myself this year was THIS, a previously unknown (to me) 1970 Muppets Christmas Special called "The Great Santa Claus Switch"! A solid *six years* before the debut of The Muppet Show, just barely a year after Sesame Street was unleashed upon the populace, this show is just AMAZING! It doesn't follow any of the standard Christmas Special themes at all, is completely original and darned entertaining!
Ed Sullivan hosts, and the only non-Muppet in the whole thing is Art Carney. I was thoroughly entertained! I have no idea why this isn't on DVD, replayed every Christmas and considered a "classic" right along Rudolph, Frosty and Michael Buble!
Video is in three parts on YouTube, embedded is only part 1. Enjoy!
