002 - Only one direction from here!
Jan. 2nd, 2015 09:48 amThe year 2015 is starting by setting a low bar of expectations. The house is a wreck because I'm not allowed to get up and do stuff, thanks to my recovering abdominal issues* that MUST be healed by the end of this month! I am willing to forsake the sigil and motto of my family (emblazoned upon our family crest) in order to make sure I am well for our trip to DISNEYLAND!
Back when my Father was the head of House Pierce, our motto was "Are You Feeling Any Better?" at the top, with "...Well then you better go ahead and push it, make yourself sicker". We Pierces are THE BEST at getting up and pretending we're not sick after being told that something will take at least a week to heal - thus forcing the recovery time in to the month-to-two-months range.
But now that *I* am Lord & Protector of The Pierce Family Name, our motto has changed. Across the top it still says "Are you feeling any better - Well then you better go ahead and push it", and a ribbon at the bottom that says "Have you taken anything for it yet? No" because we also love to complain about all sort of common ailments - headache, stuffy nose, cough, muscle ache, etc - that can easily be cured with over-the-counter medications that we have ample supplies of in our medicine cabinet, but we don't.
(Yet another amendment may be made soon, a ribbon that says "Are you sure you're okay? Yeah, I'm fine, I'd let you know if I was pushing it to far", but that's just now beginning).
That is just how we roll.
So anywho, on top of my Physical-Therapist-Mandated immobilization, I now also have a pretty wicked head cold that started on New Year's Day. Feels like a Sinus thing, and no, I HAVEN'T taken anything for it. I'll take some Dayquil when I get up to do the dishes, I promise - I'm fine, really! I'd let you know if I was pushing it too far ;)
* - The abdominal tear that I've been in and out of the Doctor's office for over the course of a full year now has been re-diagnosed by my Physical Therapist as a Pelvic problem, most likely brought on by my body trying to overcompensate for the healing of the abdominal tear because I pushed it too hard and made myself sicker)
