(FULL DISCLOSURE - I started this post last night because it takes an awful lot of preparation).

After my minor Freak-Out about The Castle at Disneyland being closed while we're there, I instantly felt better for having been so silly about it and I am now ready to start obsessively planning!

Today, a list of the foods I WILL eat while there (even though I never follow these lists and instead just go with whatever).

First of all, The Known Items:
Goofy's Kitchen - We plan on going to the character buffet at the Disneyland Hotel the night we get there. Not sure where I picked up that little tip, but how perfect! You get in to Anaheim in the later afternoon, not enough time to pay for a full day of Disneyland, too much time to just sit in the hotel wishing you were having a little Disney Magic... how about dinner with Goofy and pals at the historic Disneyland Hotel to get the excitement flowing? Goofy's Kitchen is also an excellent option since all the other character meals are Breakfast Buffet, and none of us are breakfast people. Dinner with Goofy is just what we need!

Holly Jolly Bakery - As part of my "In Walt's Footsteps" tour, I get a special lunch at one of my favorite places, the Holly Jolly Bakery! Although I know that later in the week I'll be sharing a bowl of Tomato Basil Soup and a Grilled Cheese Sandwich with my family there, this is a special lunch that I'm really looking forward to :)

Then we can move on to The Usual Suspects:
Corn Dogs - An underappreciated CLASSIC with an incredible history behind it, a corn dog and chips is the perfect meal to enjoy while waiting for the Fireworks show to start! Once upon a time they hired a fancy culinary expert to come and remake the corn dog batter recipe (they had been using an off-the-shelf Corn Dog Batter mix you could find at your local grocery store at the time) and it nearly caused RIOTS!

Bread Bowl Full Of ??? - I know we're going to have a bread bowl full of SOMETHING, but exactly *what* it's full of will be dictated by the mood at the time. Our options are Steak Gumbo, Veggie Gumbo, Clam Chowder or Chili. It heavily depends on time of day I think - Chili is more an end-of-the-evening thing, Chowder is a dinner and either of the Gumbos would be excellent for lunch.

Pizza Port Platter - I cal it this because it's what we get every time, and every time we all agree that it was just too much food. Chicken Fusilli, a slice of Pepperoni Pizza, some Bread Sticks with Marinara, and a star-shaped rice krispie treat. EVERY TIME. It's tradition!

Gibson Girl Ice Cream - We will end at least one night of our vacation sharing a sundae at the Gibson Girl, watching everyone else filter out of the park. We may even get our very own Security Guy to watch over us and encourage us to come back the next day when the park is open again!

Mandatory Snacks:
Dole Whip Float - If you have to ask, you must be new here.
Churros - This is how we bribe Molly all year long, "You could either have a happy meal *now*, or save that money for another Churro when we go to Disneyland". We owe her 627 Churros so far.

"With Souvenir" Purchases:
Coffee, Frozen Lemonade, Popcorn - If it comes with the option of a cute souvenir cup/sipper/bucket, I'm all over it! We have an extensive collection of travel coffee mugs from our various trips to the park, and I actually, literally, honest-to-gosh use the "Souvenir Sipper" that they serve Frozen Lemonade in ALL YEAR LONG. I paid an extra buck, gosh-darnit, I'm GONNA use it!

...And finally, the "Dammit I am GOING to eat that this time" category:
Rancho del Zocalo Restaurante - This has been there every time we've gone to Disneyland, and every time I have meant to eat there, and every time I fail to have a meal there. It gets excellent reviews for taste, service, atmosphere and price, so I NEED to do this!

Chili Cone Queso - It's a cone-shaped bread bowl full of corn chips, chili and cheese. I've come *close* to eating these many times, always to think better at the last second. Maybe this will be the time it happens?

Turkey Leg - This is a Disneyland Classic that I have never gotten around to eating. Need to give it a try at least once, right?

You and I travel the same. Pick a place and then start thinking about the food at the destination! :)

Is there any other way to travel ;)

We always to Goofy's kitchen the day we are leaving...Out to breakfast, a little shopping in Downtown Disney then head home - but I like your idea for when you first get there - I think that will be a great start.

I saw the pic, but did you mention the beignets? I love the Mickey shaped ones in NO's square.

You mentioned pretty much all of our favorite places to stop. Depending how many days were there, we usually find ourselves down stairs, feeding the ducks at The Hungry Bear or grabbing a bacon-wrapped asparagus ka-bob at the Bengal Barbeque.

Have fun on your trip...I don't know if I'll get there before May, but due to a guitar performance, a cheer competition, and running in the Tink Half Marathon - I'll be there 3 times in May.
