143 - My Limit
Jul. 15th, 2015 09:23 pmI just let some people I don't know take a little girl that I knew and burn her at the stake in the name of entertaining me.
There is no justification for this that doesn't make it worse or creepier, so I'm just going to stop.
Try to defend it as fiction. "She wasn't real, she was just a fictional character". Great, okay; I let a bunch of people I don't know MAKE UP a little girl to graphically burn at the stake for my entertainment. That's not better.
Try to defend it as par for the course. "You watched four seasons of rape, murder, incest, mutilation, NOW you're suddenly not okay with this type of stuff?" Yes. I look back now and I am disgusted with what I have wasted fifty-some hours of my existence observing. Physically ILL over this. It's never too late to admit you've made a terrible mistake.
I don't know what I was expecting, really... Some redemption? A happy ending of sorts? A hero to emerge who would make it all better???
I could have used those hours for something... Better. If I am going to enjoy some escapist entertainment, I want it to be something that inspires me or at the very least makes me some version of *happy* - not something like this, where the only "joy" you get is from seeing which one of the characters you hate is going to be made miserable and/or die. This show is making me delight in the misery of others!
So for me, Game Of Thrones ended at Season 5 Episode 9-and-a-half, with the burning at the stake of a little girl whom we had grown to know and love. Funny way to end a series, but I'm so glad it's finally over!
At least with a shownlike The Walking Dead, there's *hope*. There's survival and there's good people and there's people to root for.
