The shift-bid at work had 212 different shifts available to put in order from 1 to 212 in the order that you would like to work them - #1 being the shift you want the most, #212 being the one you absolutely do not want to work.

I got shift selection #198 on my list. 4:15pm till 1am, Friday through Tuesday.

No prime-time television.

No weekend days.

No time to spend with my wife, who works from 8am till 4:30 pm.

There were only 13 shifts that I could have hated *more* than I hate this shift :( I start working it on February 1st.

Suuuck. Life without seniority. Hopefully they shift bid fairly often...

Every six months, aproximately. Things are looking up, though... we're figuring out all sorts of ways to make every moment that much better for us! Plus, I get a $1.50-an-hour Shift Differential pay for having any part of my shift be past 8:30 at night. So I guess there's a *little* silver lining in this...

It's do-able, I work 9 am-6pm M-F and the hubby works 3-11pm T-Sat. I also have friends locally of which the hubby has a job with Time Warner and wifey is a college level teacher. They have to stay up all night to have ANY time together.

It's not permanent.

When did you get married anyway? And why wasn't I invited?

I posted about the wedding when it happened... are you telling me that you don't check my journal every day to see if you missed out on something that is going on in my life??? I feel so *hurt*... and yet, it *does* explain why you have not yet put in your entry for my Dead Pool this year... I figured YOU of ALL PEOPLE would be interested!

Anyway, got married on September 6th, 2003. I posted TONS of messages in my journal inviting you *personaly* to come, but I guress you just didn't care enough to even look at my past entries. So I deleted them. So don't bother looking back through my past entries for them, because they are all gone.

How did they decide who got what?

It's a combination of, in order: Who Already Has The Shift (If you want to keep your old shift, you've got "dibs"), Seniority In The Company, and What Position the shift had on your shift-bid. And if it comes to a tie after all three factors have been taken in to account (two people hired on the same day both put 8 to 5 as their number 1 selection and no one else wqants the shift), then whgoever has the higher number at the end of their Social Security Number. Since mine is 8722, I can't believe that I could have lost too many times!

Also, what do you mean no prime-time television? You said there's a TV in the support area, huh? So in theory, you get paid for watching TV for part of your shift!

I know, small consolation. Another is that anyone who calls in at 11pm is going to be so relieved to talk to a human that they will have like zero expectations. But yeah. Blows. :(
