A STARTLING REVELATION!
Mar. 31st, 2005 12:59 pmOut of nowhere today, I got the urge to listen to the Revenge Of The Nerds soundtrack. Ah, fond memories... it was one of the very first movies I made a "Bootleg" copy of back when we owned the huge Betamax VCR (Robo Cop, Stand By Me and Back To The Future being the others that were crammed on to that little 8-hour tape).
Mom packs us a lunch and we're off to school.
They call us Nerds 'cuz we're so uncool.
I watched that movie over and over and over again growing up. The "That's *MY* Pi" sceene helped launch me through puberty. Good times... good memories.
So as I'm remembering the film just now, the same thoughts keep coming up in my head. The same thoughts I thought way back when I was 12 to 13 years old, and the same thoughts I have thought each and every time I've seen the movie since then. I just can't believe I never made this connection before!
So I think of all the different Nerds... Gilbert, Lewis, Takashi, Lamar Latrell, Poindexter... THEY all seem like real Nerds. But "Booger"?
You remember "Booger". Deftly portrayed by Curtis Armstrong, noted "Wacky burn-out buddy" actor from tons of 80's movies. The "Nerd" in the torn/singed "Who Farted" T-Shirt. "Thre kings beats a Frush". The gross one who picked his nose before armwrestling a girl, won the Belching competition and told Takashi what "Hair Pie" was. You know... "Booger"!
Every time I think of that movie, I think "Well Booger's not *really* a nerd now, is he? Of course not! He's just a normal guy, just like me!"
