SIN: I've been picking early back issues of Image Comics stuff out of the quarter bins at conventions, mainly becuase you can usually find the enire run of a series for under $3. Youngblood, Team 7, Prophet, Phantom Force, Stormwatch... all stuff I never would have spent $2.95 per issue but find the allure of "5 For A Dollar" just too much to resist. Now I know I'm gonna get a lot of falck for this so I'm kinda burrying this statement in the midle of the post, but I'm really digging Rob Liefeld's early stuff. Yes the artwork is disproportionate, cross-hatched to hell and/or directly photocopied from issues of X-Men and/or Guardians Of The Galaxy. Yes the stories and plots are simplistic, cliche'd, poorly written and plagerized from old issues of Thor and/or rejected Jean Claud VanDamme movie scripts. But Mr. Liefeld also had a real genuine LOVE for this stuff! He had some incredibly grandiose plans! Coupons that fans could collect to get exclusive comics! Character appearances at comic shops! Retailer incentives! Expanding in to comics/video games/toys! His heart was definately in the right place, and i strongly believe that if he could have kept on a strict monthly publishing schedule, he may very well have become as widely aclaimed as Stan Lee (another hack writer who made up for his lack of talent by stoking the fans).
PENNANCE: I'll be spending the day cleaning, cooking and looking in to the possiility of moving to Lake Stevens. Also, many showers and much hand washing. After typing what I have typed about Rob Liefeld, I jus can't seem to get the filfth off my hands.
