I said something stupid tonight. Apologized privately almost immediately, but it was aparently too little to late. I have been banished from The Ninja Chat, reprimanded by my superiors and been told that I need to go through our Sensitivity Training again because I obviously missed the point.

All becuase they read the instructions twice at the Special Olympics :(

The things that I'm the most upset about are that (a) Somebody I know was deeply offended by what to me was no more than a witty one-liner, and that (b) he was so unwilling to accept my heart-felt apology that he went so far as to report it to management. TO MANAGEMENT! My low-level flippant remark, not even as offensive as any episdoe of The Simpsosns produced in the past 6 years, was enough to put this guy IN TEARS! He even went so far as to tell me that he wants to quit now!

I'm really shaken that what I thought was just a little throw-away "ha-ha" had so much destructive power. ANd it makes me want to re-evaluate everything I find "Funny". Heck, what THE WORLD finds funny. I can't imagine this guy making it through an episode of The Family Guy without breaking don and crying.

Disturbs me that there are people in the world that thin-skinned, and disturbs me that I hurt one of them :(

You never know what kind of background or frame of reference people have. As a rule of thumb, humor in the work place can suck. :/

It was my first face-to-face encounter with one of these frail people, too. Like, I had *heard* of their kind but never thought I would actually meet one. So far it's been kinda like meeting a Vampire; "Oh, hey, cool! You're a vampire! I didn't think those actually existed! Hey, what are you doing to my neck?"

well since I haven't been invited to Ninja Chat in quite some time, I have no frame of referance.... but GEEZE sweetie?? how could someone be that offended by something YOU said? You're so kind and funny, and if he KNEW you, would totally know you could never say something in true malice... unless it was about a rediculous customer *wink* I hope it works out. *hugs*

Actually, it was ROGER of all people! I thought I knew Roger fairly well from chat, but aparently I didn't.
