Sunday my Mother threw a Baby Shower for Molly! Here's a list of all the stuff involved with the Shower that could have been horrifically horrific:
  • Since Crystal and I don't get any sleep at all and I work the late shift at werk, I rarely ever get up before 1 in the afternoon. So of course the Shower was planned to start at 11am on my day off. This meant a fun-filled 2am drive from Lynnwood to Mount Vernon, followed by even less sleep than wht we've been geting thanks to having a neworn.
  • Molly has developed a bit of a heat rash, which of course is the perfect springboard for my Mother to launch in to a thinly veiled "You're terrible parents" tirrade of back-handed comments. She'll never come out and say it directly, just stuff that can cut crystal and me down real quick.
  • Most of the people invited couldn't come, but the two people you really hope won't e ale to make it actually made it; The Family Drunk and The Family Loon.
  • My Mother loves to make all her party food the night before, then leave it out unrefrigerated till the next day so everyone can enjoy room-temperature Deviled Eggs, Tuna Salad, Cold (luke-warm)-cuts and the like.

Now I only tell you these bullet points so I can point out what a REALLY greta time it was!

The drive up was nice and leisurely, no traffic. We each got about two hours of sleep and functioned just fine on every level, plus Molly was the LEAST fussy I've ever seen her despite eing handed around like the $8 stripper at a bachelor party.

My Mom didn't make MANY comments aout the heat rash except for once, and was quickly squelched by the other mothers in the room who all chimed in that a heat rash is perfectly normal exspecially for a first baby.

The lack of a crowd made for an easy-going environment. That meant that The Drunk didn't have to drink and The Loon didn't have to put on a performance.

And Brunch was served up FRESH, with ham straight out of the oven and little poached egg cups with hollendaise and potatoes and fresh fruit!

So considering that this was an event that I started out REALLY not wanting to attend, today ended up being a really nice/wonderful day!
