[livejournal.com profile] khristle is at the airport right now as we speak picking up her Mother, who is flying in from Ohio to stay with us for two weeks! I really, really, REALLY like my Mother-In-Law for a variety of reasons. First of all, she lives several bazillion miles away in Ohio, ALWAYS a plus for gettign along with the In-Laws :) Second, she's scarred of me. We have a good relationship thanks to FEAR!

So during these two weeks we hope to take her to the following restaurants/locations:
  • Anacortes (my home town)
  • Mount Vernon (to meet my parents)
  • Bucca di Beppo (our favorite Italian restaurant)
  • Chang's Mongolian Grill (always a good time there)
  • Dicks (because what good is a trip to Seattle without a trip to Dicks?)
  • Mr. Bill's (So she can meet our favorite comfort food, The Chicken Fried Steak Breakfast Platter)
  • Chinese Buffet (either Chef Chen or Super China, not sure which one yet)

...And if time and attitudes permit, possibly a trip to The Crab Pot. Although she's not a huge fan of seafood... matter of fact, she rather hates the stuff. But c'mon... you're in SEATTLE! You've gotta try some seafood here!

What about something that doesn't involve eating? Like the Space Needle? Or Pike Place Market?

BAH! Who needs any of that junk?

This was mostly just a list of the places we would like to go to eat... other recreations will be done between Baby Stuff :)

Somone else mentioned the Crab pot to me once. I think it was that crazy Russian Boris. I've been thinking about taking my folks to the Crab pot when they come to visit. You will have to tell me how it is.

You and your folks HATE seafood, don't you? If you all hate it, STAY AWAY FROM THE CRAB POT!!!

We've been there many times, but we actually *like* seafood :) It's very cool, they throw a bunch of crab and clams and shrimp in to a pot with potatos and corn and sausage, steam it all up and dump it out on your table. It's a very Seattle thing to have!

Eh. The crab pot is a neat experience, I suppose--they dump big stainless steel bowls of boiled seafood on the table and you just eat it--but the food isn't actually that good. They cook everything together, so the shrimp and fish are way overcooked by the time other stuff is done. And it's just not worth the bucks. For what you spend you could wander over to Elliot's and have a kick-ass dinner.

Elliot's? Where is that? Do you mean Elliot's oyster house?

Elliot's Oyster House, yeah... good for if you really appreciate good food, but The Crab Pot is great as an experience all in its own! It's kind of like a Fondue Restaurant or a Mongolian Grill just because it's so different and unique. Sitting there on the dock with the sea-air wafting over you as you pull various local seafoods from a big pile in front of you... no plated, no traditional silverware, it's all just very *Tribal* and something that I think everybody should experience at least *once*.

Yes, Elliot's oyster house. IMO, they have the consistently the best oysters in town, plus a host of rockin' seafood stuff. They have one where they grill a whole freakin' Dungeness crab soaked with spices and butter.

You have to take in to account here that you are suggesting a seafood restaurant for a person who despises seafood.

True, although you are as well. And my place has great steaks. ;)
