We may have found the first (of many) "features" of the Windows Vista Operating System!

We've had about a gazillion calls today from people who went out and bought brand-new computers today with Vista installed, and it seems that a good 80% of them refuse to recognize the NIC. Not just a "oh these drivers are bad you need to reinstall them" situation, but a "NETWORK CARD WHAT NETOWRK CARD YOU NEVER HAD A NETWORK CARD NOW STOP YOUR NONSENSE ABOUT NETWORK CARDS THIS INSTANT!"

So! If you were contemplating being oe of the first on the block to have Vista? Wait.

I'll pick it up as soon as it comes bundled with a Service Pack or two, thenkyewyeramuch!

This is why I took the day off today. They really should put a message on the IVR saying if you are having problems with your new computer please contact your warranty or if you are having problems with the new Microsoft Vista OS please call 1-800-microsoft or whatever the number is.

Vista is picky about what hardware it's compatible with. My sister had to buy a new printer because her old one wasn't supported by Vista.

Yeah, w eknow about the pickiness factor on Vista, but this is completely different. We're talking BRAND-NEW PC straight from the manufacturer, sealed box, Compaq themselves did the building of the computer and the installing of Vista... and the NIC just isn't there! Craziest thing you ever did see!

A guy on my team who installed it a while back at home from my MSDN subscription complained about this. He had a hard time finding a NIC compatible. If you don't have any drivers that expose the card to the OS, you won't see it. Another possibility is that the NIC is disabled in some way and hidden. I think I remember that rant too. Rick complains a *lot*. :D

I think I would have spelled "picky" as "sucky".

Comcast now has a message "If you are having problems with Windows Vista, press 7 now". I hope that directs them to an automated message that will reduce your calls.

Especialy when it comes to Windows.... Sad to say but I dont think the public likes to be guinea pigs so much, altho I could be wrong considering current call volume, And I'm thinking if Windows is going to be more picky this time around I think more people will be getting macs... btw if you like the mac v pc commercials you should look at www.apple.com/uk they are way more funny

Heh, this is why I have a lovely book that I'm bringing to work Called Vista, Step by Step. Even though I use Vista, I'd rather have personal reference material for poeple who shouldn't be running the OS.
