[livejournal.com profile] squirlywrath has been going to the Emerald City Comic Con with me every year now for, like, EVER.  Her ticket is usually waht i get her for her Birthday each year!  This year, she wants me to dress her up in a costume for the costume contest.

So here's the problem.

What costume do you make for a, uhm... *BLOSSOMING* young lady whom' you've seen from the moment she was orn all the way up till current-day angsty Panic-At-The-Disco TEENHOOD?!?!

How do you dress that BLOSSOMING young lass in a way that doesn't make every sweaty, overweight, balding, pasty, sexually-repressed basement-dweller in the place want to, y'know... "Pluck her Blossoms"?

It's not as if Super Heroines are known for their chaste and concealing costumes!  And I will NOT have the little girl who would beg me to read her The Three Billygoats Gruff showing up at the convention in some skin-tight, midrift-bearing, chest-thrusting-boustier-and-high-heels combo!

And so i have searched and I have searched, and I think I've finally found the costume I'll be making for her:

It's simple!  it's elegant!  And best of all, it doesn't involve bondage gear of any kind!  Of couse I have to wait for the approval of [livejournal.com profile] dotgirl and [livejournal.com profile] collisions, but by golly I think this is doable!  A white sheet, a few yards of yellow trim, a yellow braid and some yellow mid-calf boots!

Also, Mary Marvel (the character pictured aove) is a pure, sweet heroine with enough power to easily KO Captain Atom.  I think she'll like it!

Modesty

So, Power Girl is out then?

Actually, I think Mary Marvel's a swell choice.

I think it's cute! Your challenge will be convincing her out of the skin-tight midriff-baring whatnot, but maybe stories of the basement dwellers will do it for you.

That is a cute costume and one not likely to be repeated by anyone else. You want to make sure the sheet is thick enough, both so it doesn't show light through, but also to hide underwear lines. Otherwise you will need to get a thicker cloth.

Can she do that hairstyle or will you need to wig it?

Has she given you any of her own choices?

Are you still going to be a Zap Gun For Hire?

Not sure about the Zapgun For Hire costume now... I was silly and shaved off my mustache not too long ago, not sure if it'll come back in time.

I think she can pull off the hairstyle... she's got great hair :)

Mary Marvel is perfect. Especially the super-innocent one from "FKA the Justice League." And if you want to make doubly sure she's safe from leering nerds, get a large, thuggish friend of yours to go as Captain Marvel.

and on that above costume, you could even take a thick white T-shirt, sew yellow ribbon on the sleeves, do an easy wraparound skirt with more yellow ribbon on the hem, get a martial arts belt or something like it... iron on lightening from the craft store... the cape, fold at the 1/3 mark and attach to the shirt at the shoulders, then more yellow ribbon after you trim the edges.

THougth about it, but Jubilee is a fairly complex costume. The yellow trenchcoat, the knee-high boots, the hoop ear rings... and the fact that Jubilee is Asian (which Brittany is DEFINATELY not)... it just looked way too costly. And we did a 80's Rogue for her a few years back, so we've been there AND done that...

No, I think it's gotta be Mary Marvel. A 3XL white T-Shirt, some yellow trim, a big lightning bolt and a bit of yellow PVC. It'll look real snazzy, and we could heve her and you re-enact key sceenes for the I Can't Believe It's Not The JLA storyline!

You'll have to pick up "Formerly Known As The Justice League" and the "I Can't Believe It's Not The Justice League" story arc fro JLA Classified (issue 4 through, like 10 or something?) for further info :)

That's a lot of yellow dude. Buit it's a good costume. I lov emy b-day presents nad I'm sorry you had to experience sweaty, teenage me at a Panic! At the Disco concert. But that should be a fun costume. Plus I'd wear the yellow boots a lot. I like yellow.

EXCELLENT! I'll start working on the costume this weekend! I may have to borrow you after school on some Monday or Tuesday soon (like the beginning of March) for some fittings :)

What size shows do you wear, anywho?

Also, I'll need to have you read the comics that Mary Marvel comes from so you have an idea of who you're dressing up as!

I wear 9 1/2 women's.
Not monday the 12th though i've got a dentist's appointment.
Sure I'll read it and I won't be here April Monday the 6th to the 13th I think because I'll be in Japan.

That's right! JAPAN! Luckilly, I won't need you for costume fitting on April 6th because the convention is done on APRIL 1ST :P

I found the PERFECT boots for your costume today, but they were a size 5 :(

So maybe we should plan for either Monday or Tuesday, February 26/27? We'll probably make a trip to the Goodwill by your house and a few other stops!
