Mainly directed at [livejournal.com profile] teegin, but open to anybody who can give me ideas.

For some reason I can't get my computer to burn DVD's any more. Looking for an alternative. Maybe a different burning software? I'm currently using Nero and it seems to be continually failing at the completion stage of the burn; Error Log says "Device Unavailable" once it gets to the "Disk-At-Once" stage. So every DVD I've burned today HAS all the information on it, you can access it using a PC with very little problem... but the program failed at the end, and the disks won't play on a DVD player.

Things I have tried? Uninstall/reinstall Nero, have Nero perform it's "Repair" function, rolled-back the drivers for my DVD burner, Updated the firmware for the burner, undid the firmware upgrade and reinstalled the old firmware, uninstalled McAffee Security Center and of course many, MANY reboots of the PC in there.

Unable to copy a disk. Unable to burn video files from my hard drive of any kind. Even when just tryng to create a disk image to the HD I'm getting errors! GRRRRRRRR!!!

Any ideas? I'm really thinking it's the burning software and I just need to try an lternate, but what other burning software IS there?

Did you do anything in between when it worked and when it didn't?

For strict copying of DVDs, I use DVD Shrink, but for doing original stuff, I use Nero. There is also Roxio's suite of stuff that is pretty feature comparable to Nero's, but vaguely suckier in implementation. That is, I couldn't get it to work on my Windows 2003 server at work, and it installs lots of crap that you have to hunt down and deinstall. But I hear it's fine under XP--most of the desktops at our office are that.

That's ehat I've been using for all my burning, too; DVD Shrink and Nero. Didn't do anything except for the standard Microsoft Updates, but I might try and do a System Restore anyways, just in case...

Roxio, you say? I just might have ot track that down... thanks!

Isue started happening after I updated Nero, then it wouldn't let me uninstall and reinstall the older version. Windows XP, Nero 7 Ultra Edition, DVD Shrink 3.2.15? I think that's the latest and greatest... tried uninstalling and reinstalling the DVD Shrink as well.

I'm about to install Roxio and give that a try. If it doesn't work I'll move the DVD burner over to Crystal's computer and install everything over there, see if it still doesn't work.

I really, REALLY hope it's the software!

What version of Windows are you running?
What version of DVD Shrink?
What version of Nero?

System restore may be a good idea and so might a re-install of the OS but I will know more when I hear your answers. As for other programs Roxio, DVDXCopy, or Clone DVD work. I still don't think that the programs DVD Shrink and Nero are the issue. Find me on IM.
