I wonder if this is how The Federation kept insurance premiums low for low-ranking crew members? "So... Ensign Ricky! Looks like you've got a lot of pre-existing conditions that *will* be covered, as well as a family history of very expensive diseases such as Cancer and Heart disease! And thanks to Starfleets more-than-generous insurance coverage, you'll be covered at 100% for EVERYTHING... as long as you don't, y'know, *die while investigating a mysterious signal coming from the plant-people of Gonoreahus 7*. But really, what are the odds of THAT happening? Just make sure to wear your Red Shirt so everyone knows you're covered!"
