Star trek was indeed the bestest darned movie in all of forever... but I still think there will be hundreds of thousands of people who refuse to go see it simply because they're "Not in to That Star Trek Crap". And that's sad because... WOW.

[livejournal.com profile] khristle had about as much exposure to The Original Series as anybody else in the "NITTSTC" crowd... she had been forced to watch an episode or two, and she knew that the funny old guy from Boston Legal was on it.

This was the first movie I've ever been to where she was demanding a second viewing by the end. It was THAT GOOD.

I am very much from the NITTSTC camp, having grown up in a house where my father would torture us with reruns of Star Trek on Sunday afternoons instead of letting us kids switch it to MTV or Nickelodeon. As an adult, I have quite often declared this home a "Star Wars House." That sparked quite the outcry from one of my Trekkie co-workers.

Yet, deep in my soul, I know that I NEED to go see this new movie. I've been hearing such good things about it that I may force Ron to go before Father's Day (he was planning on taking his dad).

Or I might take my dad. On a Sunday afternoon. ;)

I am glad to hear it. Star Trek really needed a strong reboot. I hope it makes enough money to encourage a few more from them. We haven't caught up to the Bond films yet after all!

I've always been more of a ST: TNG person myself. But I was amazed by this version. I was fully prepared to boo, hiss, and generally express my incredulity and disdain....within the first two minutes that urge was completely forgotten. Abrams really did a good job of reinventing the characters; and the actors did a REALLY fantastic job of portraying them. I'm actually looking forward to the next one in the franchise.

Agreed. I only watched The Next Generation and I thoroughly enjoyed that movie. Want to see it again for sheezy.
