Lunchtime conversation with Crystal has forced me to see that the whole convention trip would be just plain irresponsible. Let it be noted that 98% of these facts are *mine*, and mine alone. I came up with all of these while Crystal was looking for a cheaper flight:
  • We need our Continental Air Credits so we can go visit her family next year.
  • I've spent the last year trying to get rid of all the crap I've accumulated over the years; flying to Ohio so that i can just buy some more crap is kind of counter-productive.
  • We live paycheck-to-paycheck; I can't really justify spending two months worth of groceries on one night of sleeping in a hotel.
  • There are A LOT of things more important than a convention right now... neither of our vehicles has a radio in it, our refrigerator is busted, need to finish painting and putting up moulding... even if I could pull off this trip with zero out-of-pocket expense, it's still just not worth it.
  • A trip like this would SERIOUSLY cut in to any future plans to go to Disneyland. We're kind of planning to go for Molly's Birthday at the end of January if she seems old enough by then.
  • It would be downright selfish of me to expect to go to TWO different two-day comic book conventions a year.

So I think I'll just stick with the good old Emerald City Comic Con!

You need a fridge? We have one that we will no longer be using by the end of this month (smallish, white. Needs cleaning, but works well. May need seal replacement) and another that we will no longer be using after our kitchen is functioning again (side by side, white, water/ice on the door... although we've never used that function, so not sure if it works). You're welcome to either or both, if you can pick up and transport it/them when the time comes. Let me know if you're interested.

BTW, we're in the early stages (just got a loan started today) of a kitchen remodel. Not sure what kind of timeframe we're talking about on the fridges, but the smaller one could conceivibly be free later this week.

That's awesome, thanks! I don't think we could use the smaller one... the one we have currently needs a seal and a new door. But the OTHER ONE, with the side-by-side? That sounds awesome! I'll check with our landlord and see if that would work for him... when would we be able to get that?

We won't be able to let loose on the side by side until we're done using it. And as that's the one we'll be using through the remodel, it could be a few months.

The only reason I mention the seal on the smaller one is because there appears to be a gap between the door and the fridge. But it stays cold well and the freezer is staying frozen. Actually, the back of the fridge has been known to freeze things from time to time as well. The only problem we've had with it is with items on the freezer door thawing once. I don't put things there anymore. Problem solved. But it works just fine.
