Death Watch 2010
Mar. 10th, 2010 10:10 amAfter the debacle that was 2009, I had originally decided to forgo any "Celebrity Death Watch" game this year. But Corey Haim's untimely death has made me realize that we NEED these things in our lives! So here, for any and all who care to participate this year, are the New and Improved Vegas-Style Rules for CELEBRITY DEATH WATCH 2010!!!
The only deaths that will count for this year of Celebrity Death Watch will be, as always, notable pop-culture folks who would merit some National Media Attention. Brittany Spears is a yes; Hank your Barber is a NO. Also, NO POLITICIANS with the exceptions of Presidents, Ex-Presidents and National News Sex-Scandal politicians. Really, you want to stick with yur actor/musician types for this anywho.
You get three selections. They can be Specific Celebrities or Spreads.
Specific Celebrities will get you points equal to the celebrities age subtracted from 100. EXAMPLE: If Betty White is 88. If she dies this year you only get 12 points. But if Robert Pattinson dies at age 24, you get a whopping 76 points!
Spreads only get you one point, but can win you multiple times. The spreads available are "70's/80's Icons", "Former Child Stars", "Sports Stars", "Seventy-Plus" and "Well DUH!"
"20th Century Icons" would include anybody who's obituary contains lots of references to their career when it was REALLY hot, back before the turn of the century (up to 1999). Mr. T, Rick Schroeder, Steve Guttenberg, Bon Jovi, any member of KISS, Henry Winkler, Allanis Morrisette, Kevin Smith... you'll know 'em when you see 'em.
"Former Child Stars" covers anybody and everybody that eitherhad the bulk of their success or fame during their pre-teen and teenage years, or first became famous in that same time period. Corey Feldman, Wil Wheaton, Danny Bonaduce, Raven Symone, Miley Sirus, Niel Patrick Harris, etc.
"Sports Stars" covers any and all PROFESSIONAL athletes. NASCAR, Wrestling, Football, Baseball, Tennis, Bowling... it's all good.
"Seventy-Plus" gives you a point for each celebrity that dies at age 70 or older.
Well DUH!" is for the ones that everybody knew was coming and makes everybody say stuff like "Yeah, saw that one coming". Lindsey Lohan, Kieth Richards, Dick Clark.
You CAN get multiple hits off of multiple spreads. Brittany Spears would be eligible for "Former Child Stars", "20th Century Icons" AND "Well DUH!"... if you had chosen those three spreads, you would get three points for her death
Go at it! Leave your selections in the comments below, and good luck!

Date: 2010-03-10 08:23 pm (UTC)If I were to make my own categories, they would be:
I had big hair in the 80's!
I was a Mousketeer!
Former child star NOT killed by drugs/alcohol/suicide! Gasp!
Let's see...
Would Steve Wozniak count as a celebrity?
I'll take "Well Duh!", Macauley Culkin, and "70s/80s Icons".
