From now on, Businesses will only be required to offer services in the languages of whomever they want to take money from. If you are a business owner and you don't want to take money from the 80% of the planet that DOESN'T speak English, that's up to you. If ten people come in to your business wanting to give you money and you're willing to kick 8 of those people out because they don't speak the language, GO FOR IT. Good luck with that.

As a direct corollary to this new rule, please DO NOT get all pissy because some businesses put their offerings in both English and Spanish. You choose who YOU sell to, I'll choose who *I* sell to. Deal?

Oh, & silly tidbit - Washington's strategy of saying "press 2 for spanish" in spanish after the "welcome to comcast" IVR intro was actually adopted by the entire bloody country.

So we all would get less xenophobic whining from the unwashed masses in our daily call taking...

The owner of a business I worked for went out of his way to make sure that he catered to the major groups of the area. To hire people that speak the language, to provide the products and services people want, and to generally make people feel comfortable... That's just common sense business practice.

Yes! I endorse this new rule! I hate it when people bitch about the bilingual option, or -- horror of horrors -- having to push 1 for English! Ugh. I just wait for them to finish and don't really say anything that could be construed as supportive of their bigotry.
