"Nerd" is the new "Hip"!

I have this weird feeling that I/we are on the cusp of something epic here. There's this new "Hippness" to all the nerdy things that I've ever loved, all the nerdy things I'm in to... I feel like one of the folks who were there a the first tapings of Saturday Night Live, or stumbling in to The Cavern Club to listen to The Beatles. Like in just a few years from now, or by the time Molly is in her teens, people will look back and say "I can't believe you were there!"
There are just SO MANY THINGS that are unpoularly popular, so many things that the general populace just doesn't "get" but for those of us who DO "get" it, it's all-encompassing.
Stuff like... like we have our own alternatives to *everything*. They have Jay Leno; we have Craig Ferguson. They have "Dancing With The Stars", we have "Mythbusters". Wil Wheaton. Stewart/Colbert. Jonathan Coulton. Patton Oswalt. Doctor Who. John Barrowman. PAX & PAX East. Nerdcore music. ComiCon. G4TV.
All these things seem *important* somehow. Not world-breaking important, but more like "I was there" important.
It feels *weird*, especially when I interact with somebody who has no idea wh or what those important things are. In the immortal words of Wesley Crusher, "It feels weird... but *good*!"
