captain_slinkyIt was ten years ago TODAY, May 5th 2001 when Crystal moved here to Washington just so she could live with me.
Innocent, small-town girl with no reason or desire to ever go any further away from home than a tank full of gas could take her. And here she was saying good-bye to everyone and everything she had ever known to fly from Ohio to Washington for a chance at having something more... something real.
She came to me and she changed my life. All the things I had ever hoped and dreamed for, all the things I spent night after frustrated night telling myself I didn't deserve, all the things I assumed were only for "regular" people, she gave to me and I gave to her in kind. A companion, a lover, a best friend, a partner. A perfect balance to my unbalanced life. A reason to buckle my seatbelt and schedule an annual check-up with my doctor. Motivation not just to live, but to keep living for as long as I could.
Ten years ago... wow.
I think the musical team of Jeff Barry and Tom Scott summed it up best, which is why I quoted them in my wedding vows...
