This morning I am happy-crying over this film, Jim Henson's "Time Piece". It's kind of rare, no Muppets, just... if you've got 9 minutes, watch it.

I'm shedding tears of joy because we... because *I* was lucky enough to live in a place and time where a guy like Jim Henson was around. He had a head full of awesome, funny, weird and fantastical ideas that he was able to put on to film and share with the rest of the world and that just makes me SO HAPPY! It makes me want to create things!

The weird thing about Jim Henson (for me) is that unlike my other passions in life, I have no real desire to COLLECT Jim Henson stuff. The other 4 things in my BIG FIVE INSPIRATIONS (Disneyland, Comic Books, Star Trek and Weird Al Yankovick) I collect like I'm a hoarder looking to mummify a few cats! But Jim Henson stuff? I've got 4 early 1980's Muppets puppets and a full set of McDonalds Great Muppet Caper glasses. Everything else I've either given away or sold for ridiculously low prices.

It has just always felt like the Jim Henson stuff needs to be *out there*, inspiring other people instead of collecting dust in my cupboard or storage unit.

Feel the need to write about my BIG FIVE INSPIRATIONS now...

JIM HENSON - Motivation and determination to move something out of my brain and in to the real world in any way I can.

DISNEYLAND - Proof that you CAN alter reality if you believe hard enough and work even harder at it.

COMIC BOOKS - Each and every 4-color adventure is an entire universe in and of itself that I can easily carry in my back pocket.

STAR TREK - Like a shiny and completely believable dream of the future where things ARE better.

WEIRD AL YANKOVICK - Not only can you make a living out of just being silly, you can become an ICON.

do you USE your muppet glasses? I have friends who act shocked that I use the Disney, Muppets, superhero, and Snoopy glasses that we collected in the early 80s. Pop and I used them up until I moved out of his house and then he let me take them with me. I've been using those glasses most of my life and couldn't imagine NOT using them.

We *always* use our glasses :) I've got about a hundred different glasses that we use whnever we want things to be "Special"... any time we have a gathering I ask my guests "Which 80's Pop-Culture Icon would you like to sip from this evening?"

I'm the exact opposite. When the Muppet action figures came out I got as many as I could. My crowning glories are the Rainbow Connection Kermit and the 24" Sweetums. I seriously nearly cried when the guy brought him out from the back of the comic shop. I left that day with a limited edition Animal and the Sweetums. It makes me terribly sad not many people know who Sweetums is and I had to school someone on the Electric Mayhem before going on maternity leave.

I'm tired so I'm rambling. Just saying I'll give away a comic because someone needs to read it (I have given away no less than four copies of Good Omens-not a comic, not the point) but my Henson stuff stays.
