Went to the doctor yesterday regarding my constant battle with The Gout.

We switched up my medications a bit, lowering my Indomethicine and upping my Alpurinol (lessening my upset stomach and increasing my "Kinda Out-of-it").

We discussed my diet... she was very impressed that I've bone Vegetarian, said it sounds like I've made all the right choices about lessening my intake of potentially gouty foods, no mention of if I should keep going at it or just give it up. We did discuss, however, how the only real consensus on gout foods is that you should avoid red meat and organ meats. Everything else is a "Your Mileage May Vary" situation.

I have ended up pulling a thigh muscle while hobbling around on my gouty foot, she said to treet it as I would any other pulled muscle - rest it, avoid over working it, etc.

In about two weeks I'll be able to start slowly working various gout-related foods back in to my diet to try and figure out which ones are my "Trigger" foods. Things I will have to avoid at all costs will be red meat, organ meat, sausages of any kind and probably dark meat chicken/turkey. I really REALLY hope that white meat turkey, pork and lamb will be okay for me :)

Aw, man. It's kinda like my issue. Some people with my problems avoid certain foods that I have to eat to keep healthy, and I don't tolerate well a diet that might help some others. There's so many variables.

How long will it take to find out if a food you've added back in is bugging you?

About two years... it'll actually be a life-long process of trying a new food for one meal, waiting a week, then figuring if it was okay or not before trying anything else new :/

You have just entered the land of "Oh crap! Ain't gonna eat that again..."

I'm at the age where I need to keep watch on everything I eat to see if it's a potential Tummy Twister...

I consider The Age Of OhCrap to be a right of passage, a sign of dignity... like arthritis, wrinkles and grey hair :)

Well if it makes you feel any better, how about if I jut say "Hot Dogs, Lunch Meats, Sausages and 98% of all store-bought ground meat"? Any time you eat a burger or a nugget from fast food, a VERY large part of that food is innards & gizzards :)
