Making my post early today because we have Molly's Birthday Party today at 2:30! She's turning 6, and we're doing the whole Chuck E. Cheese thing :)

I'm kind of ashamed of the Chuck E. Cheese Birthday because of my past as a Professional Party Planner (back when http://www.birthdayexpress.com was a local small company with a heart instead of an outsourced catalog service), but Molly is SO VERY the type of kid who needs a birthday party full of loud noises and a teenager in a rat suit.

We are doing a double-party today, sharing it with Molly's friend Aurelia who is turned 7 a few days ago. Almost exactly 1 year apart and most people just assume that they are sisters (some even go so far as to think they are twins)!

My nieces name is Aurelia! It's not a name I see often.

Unrelated but I think it's funny, I have a coworker who swears we look nothing alike yet everyone asks if we're sisters/twins. Not as cute as when I was a kid. For the record I'm like 6 years this girls senior and I have at least 30lbs on her so I feel kind of bad for her since I think she's super pretty.

I can totally see you being a party planner. You have that knack for details and how to make things fun for people. I've thought about it, but it wouldn't pay nearly as much as my tech job. I'm kinda spoiled with the paycheck of a good tech job. If I went for higher-end planning, it would just get more stressful. I like a job I can walk away from (except for the on-call bit, which is rare) at the end of the day and keeping "normal" hours.

Chuck E. Cheese is pretty fun up until about 9 or so. I have good memories of it. Then there was that silly cutting-school-for-a-going-away-party-at-Chuck-E-Cheese day back in high school. That was fun, too, even if we did get shooed out at the end by a very frowny-faced manager. 0:)

Professional Party Planner was the most fulfilling job I ever had... it was all internet and phone-based support for parents who didn't want to hire a irl Party Planner to run the whole show, they just needed an expert to help them in the right direction. The Party Planning was a free service, and then we hoped that folks would purchase their party supplies from us. SO MANY thank-you notes and pictures of happy kids :)

I think for kids Mollys' age, the Chuck-E-Cheese party is the pinnacle of coolness. It is something that they all hope their parents will do. Molly may be sharing the party with Aurelia, and Aurelia with her; but as far as each is concerned it's all good.

Yeah, upon returning my kids had a glow of contentment about them that was far more than mere pizza fulfillment. Would it be inappropriate to say they were "happy as a dog at a fart factory"? The children have a strange enchantment with chuck-e-cheese that eludes me. Nevertheless, they loved it and so all is well. Thanks for the invitation.
