At the very least, I have been able to figure out why that Fantasy Painting I found at Goodwill Outlet looks so familiar - it's a a pretty good copy of Frank Frazetta's "Kane On The Golden Sea" from 1977, one of his most famous pieces of work.

So although this COULD have been Dave Arneson copying a famous artist, it's most likely one of the many companies that will offer to make a full-scale, painted copy of any piece of artwork for around $150. Make it just *sliiiightly* different, make sure to sign it with the new artist's name and VIOLA! INSTANT ORIGINAL ART THAT'S AN "HOMAGE" INSTEAD OF PAUPERISM!!!

Still, hey, it's an awesme piece of artwork and I'm sure that I can sell it for a pretty penny at the Bellingham Comic Con :)

It's still a cool painting, either way. I know someone who might appreciate it enough to want to buy it. Thought about a price yet?

I've thought A LOT about price... considering that you can get a brand new one for $175 shipped on-line, I was gonna go low... but then there's the potential historical interest/story, so I thought I'd go high. Really depends on who I'm selling it to I guess? At the convention, once I'm in full-on Salesman mode and telling the story about how it *might be* Dave Arneson, I'm sure i can get at least $100... but I'm also open to a trade of equal value...

What are your thoughts?

Doesn't hurt to start high, and if you can recall what else you found along with it, it might help lend credence to your story.

I'll bug my friend and see if he's interested enough.

Cool... I'm open to counter-offers as well :) The stuff I personally pulled out of the bin were the types of games that would have been sent to a gaming pioneer... all the boxed Euro-style games that have become popular over the past ten years or so. Nuns On The Run, Ultimate Werewolf, Illuminati, Munchkin, Carcassonne, Settlers of Catan, Blind Justice, a bunch of Warhammer stuff... the only ones I was personally able to get out of that bin Nuns On The Run and Munchkin. Then over in the *books* bin (same day) there were several RPG books that somebody else had grabbed, only one I know for sure that was in the stack of about 20 books was a first edition D&D Fiend Folio.

So either it was THE Arneson, or it was some random gamer who may have bought the painting somewhere because HE thought it was painted by THE Arneson :)
