The myth of The Modern Age Collectible Comic is officially dead; pulled a black-bag Superman #75 ("The Death Of Superman") out of the quarter bin at Half Price Books today. I'm now positive that nothing made after 1986 will ever be worth anything, ever. All you "Investment" "Collectors" can go ahead and donate that box full of Valiant and Image #1 issues to your local Goodwill, reclaim a few feet of storage space and maybe a little dignity.

On the PLUS SIDE, for those of us who like to READ comics in our collection and collect them because we actually LIKE them, this is EXCELLENT NEWS! I've pulled nearly a complete run of the new "Jonah Hex" comic from the ten-for-a-dollar bins! Just waiting till I have the entire pre-DCU52 issues before I start reading... I *may* have to pay up to a dollar per missing issue though :(

I've been pulling tons of THOSE out of quarter bins, too... I want to get enough glow-in-the-dark and foil-embossed, chromium covered stuff to light up an entire room :)

Yay! I don't let myself collect comics, so this is good. I don't want to have a whole shelf or boxes of stuff I'm afraid to touch or enjoy. If something happens, oh well, too bad. I'll even purposely grab the comics with a bent corner, given the choice, as a reminder not to take it too seriously. If I had a bunch of mint condition comics, I'd be tempted to start collecting, and that's just a cliff I don't want to step over. On the bright side, though, it means I can get cheap comics sometimes.

You up for a game of Sentinels anytime soon? I have a copy and I can drive. :D

The sad thing is, I probably already own most of the contents of those bargain bins. The variant covers were nice. I'll admit to buying them; but mostly because I liked the artwork. To me, comic books are ongoing soap operas. They just happen to be better written than most of the stuff out there.

I also encourage my nephew to read my comic books. Anything that will get a kid to read is a good thing
