So I have this dirty little secret... I've kind of abandoned my 1980's Saturday Morning Historical Recreation Society because of what happened to me after Hal Sutherland died. See, while I was tracking down confirmation of his passing and doing research on his career, I had a realization - Though 1980's Saturday Morning Cartoons deserve to be celebrated and appreciated as the Golden Age of Saturday Morning Cartoons, it's the Saturday Morning programming of the 1970's that really gives me a personal thrill.

Every time I would start writing about some late-80's cartoon like "Camp Candy" or "Captain N The Game Master" or "Beetlejuice", my heart just wasn't in it. I would have much rather been writing up Land Of The Lost, The Super Globetrotters or The Fantastic Four. My interest in 1980's cartoons seems to die off at about 1986/1987, then I have a bit of a morbid fascination with the programming of the early 90's... but that's it.

The Saturday Morning of the 1970's and early 80's are where it's at for me. Watching the embedded video below, I see all sorts of programs that I have a very vague recollection of - which is really weird since I was only 3 at the time! But The Kids From C.A.P.E.R., The Monster Squad, Big John/Little John, Mister Jaw... all of these shows brng back a crazy amount of feelings for me!

Watch if you will... it even includes the original 1976 commercials!

HR Puffenstuf, and the ORIGINAL 'Land of the Lost' were the best Saturday morning shows ever. They were bright, colorful, and very original. The shows encouraged kids to use their imagination.

There was a lot of good stuff in '80's morning shows., up until about 86-87, then after that it just seemed to become little more than toy commercials.

Y'know, I rewatched Land Of The Lost a few years back (Molly enjoyed it), and it really stands up well as a solid sci-fi show. I do believe that at the time I was rewatching, I compared it to an American Doctor Who. Very classy!

Do you remember Felix the Cat or Courageous Cat and Minute Mouse, or is that just me?

Also -I thought that my florite crystals (no idea how to spell that) from my special rock collection, were the same crystals the sleestaks had in their glowing-crystal lump-sheds.

Those are *juuuuuuuuust* outside my area of personal knowledge. I'n gonna say maybe 1972/1974? I mean, I *know* these cartoons, I just have no personal recollection of them as being an essential part of a balanced Saturday Morning :)
