Stumbled upon a fun way to make Molly get stuff done on the weekends; I turned it all into a giant game for her.

Sixteen Post-It Notes, each with a task printed on it:

  • Three things she HAS TO do (Writing Journal, Math Homework and a Test that was sent home for her to do over Spring Break)
  • Seven things she NEEDS TO do (Hang up laundry, Clean Room, Clean Desk, Vacuum, Put Away Dishes, Read a book, Clean out school backpack)
  • Six things she WANTS TO do (Go to the park, bake cookies, play on the computer, play a new board game, have lunch at McDonald's, watch a movie)

For each HAS TO and/or NEEDS TO task she finished, she could either:

  • Choose a WANTS TO item to do next, or
  • Assign one of the remaining NEEDS TO items to Crystal or I to do for her.

And if she managed to clear the board of all 16 things, there would be a *SPECIAL SURPRISE* at the end of the night!

In the future, there will be less Want To, more Need To stuff. Crystal and I ended up hanging laundry, cleaning her room and cleaning her desk because she quickly figured out that if there's only FUN STUFF left at the end then all she has to do is the fun stuff. A good lesson learned, I guess? Delegate and get stuff done so you can have nothing but fun left to do at the end?

Anywho, this was a resounding success because it kept us *busy* all day long and we accomplished a lot! I lok forward to using this system again in the near future :)
