I picked up a bunch of 1990's reprints of old 1940's and 1950's Horror Comics out of the quarter bins at Emerald City Comic Con. I have always been curious about the content of those pre-code comics and how they could have possibly been deemed SO TERRIBLE that they were warping the minds of our young and creating juvenile delinquents - certainly they couldn't hold a candle to the entertainment kids devour today, could they?

Yes... yes they can.

These stories are GRAPHIC! DISTURBING! TWISTED! Like, now that I see where they all came from, these modern stories all seen so... tame. You like Zombies, kid? That's great... but have you ever seen a man drown in a vat of molten cheese and then sliced-up and served to his unsuspecting family years later?

I bought a couple of compendiums of 1960s "Creepy" magazine in kindle form. They're all black and white and full of comeuppance. I'll have to check out the forerunners you have sometime, perhaps they are even creepier?

The 60's/70's had a monopoly on creepy, these 40's and 50's comics were just *morbid* :)
