181 - Direct To Video
Oct. 7th, 2015 09:04 pmIt's just another brilliant game idea post... feel free to move along...
So the game is called "Direct To Video", and it plays a little bit like Apples To Apples I guess?
CONTENTS:
100 "Plot Synopsis" cards that feature single-line, generic recaps of famous movies which you may or may not "get" just from this blurb. EXAMPLE: Rebel Forces fight against a tyrannical Empire in outer-space with the help of specially trained mystic warriors.
50 each of single-word "Noun", "Verb", "Conjunction", "Adverb" and "Adjective" cards.
Six identical envelopes.
THE GAME:
Each player takes 7 cards - one from each pile (Noun, Verb, Conjunction, Adverb and Adjective), then two from any pile(s) they wish in order to bring the total up to 7.
The player who's turn it is reads a Plot Synopsis card to the group.
Each player then constructs a title for a direct-to-video knock-off of that movie and puts the cards back-to-front in the order you would say them in order to make the title, and puts the stack in an envelope, which is handed to the person who read the synopsis.
Once all players have handed in their envelopes, the player reads each on in random order and chooses the best one based purely on their opinion.
So for our little Star Wars knock-off, we might see the title "Space Knight Farmer", or "The Sister Does Poorly", or "My Crackers Won't Stay Quiet In Red". Whatever people were able to put together.
The winner is announced, and he gets one point for each word card that was played by all players this round. The played word cards are discarded (to be shuffled and recycled once that pile has run out) and each player draws five new cards from any combination of piles to add to the cards that they had left over from the previous round.
(This means that everyone will probably have a different amount of cards in their hand after the first round).
Play goes till at least everyone has had a chance to be The Judge and choose the best Direct-To-Video knock-off film :)
